Overview


The Civil Service Commission was created by Ordinance #361, adopted on February 26, 1948, and in accordance with Chapter 325, Acts of the Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 1947, and amended by Ordinance #361-A and Ordinance #361-B. The purpose of the commission shall be to, establish a civil service system for firemen and policemen, be sympathetic to the principles of the merit system, and to provide duties as set forth in Section 143 of the Texas Local Government Code and as required through the Union's contract.
